imageRemember those spaghetti sauce commercials where everyone asked if such-and-such was in the sauce and they kept getting told "It’s in there!"

I’m just noting that Verizon is rolling out their cloud computing services which seem pretty awesome and, well, in terms of including the security ingredient, Novell is in there!

The press release earlier this year said:

More businesses are moving to the cloud, and a new offering from Verizon powered by Novell® technology will give enterprise clients the much-needed security to run their cloud-based applications.

Secure Access Services from Verizon — a new on-demand identity and access management service — will make it easy and cost-effective for enterprise clients to outsource the infrastructure and expertise required to extend and manage user access to cloud-based resources while maintaining control over policies and governance.

Verizon Selling Apple iPad Now

As of this morning, you can finally buy the Apple iPad from someone other than Apple or AT&T. I wonder if this larger marketing push may be a way to get the iPad in the hands of more people… I wouldn’t be surprised if we see retailers like Best Buy or even Wal-Mart carrying the iPad for the holidays.

The following email blast went out to Verizon customers this morning.

The announcement, which came about 15 days ago, brings the Apple/Verizon partnership to a new level, with speculation buzzing even more that the game-changing iPhone is next to finally break-free from the AT&T exclusivity deal.

Details:

  • As Mashable notes, “the collaboration won’t see Verizon compatible technology embedded in the iPad, it will bundle the iPad Wi-Fi with a Verizon MiFi 2200 Mobile Hotspot.”
  • Concerning pricing of the add-on MiFi device, Techcrunch notes “Apple is agreeing to sell all three varieties (storage sizes) of their iPad in Verizon’s stores across America starting in two weeks. When purchased with their MiFi device, the two together cost $629.99, $729.99, and $829.99 for the 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB variations, respectively. Yes, those are the exact same prices that Apple is selling the iPad with built-in 3G from AT&T for. But again, the MiFi is a stand-alone product, so Apple/Verizon are selling you the WiFi-only version of the iPad to use in conjunction with this device.”

For me, I’d rather have an android tablet, I’m wondering if the Samsung Galaxy is worth the hype it’s getting (and possible maneuvering from Apple to keep their sales up?)

Using Google Voice For All Your Voicemails

I’ve been using for a long time. It’s a ridiculously simple killer app that helps me coordinate, manage and archive all my communications.  It knows where I am and follows me (ringing the applicable mobile, VoIP/Skype or landline phones that I frequent depending on time-of-day, who is calling, etc.).

The voicemail features of Voice make things even awesomr and the ability to see/play the messages via email, on the web, or on my GoogleVoice enabled Android phone just makes plain-old blah-blah-leave-your-message-at-the-beep voicemail look, well, plain.

But, when people call my mobile/landline directly, I have to ratchet back down to dumb-voicemail-mode where I have to actually call my voicemail provider, pump in my password and dial the prompts to skip archived messages to get to the one I want to hear.

A reasonably new feature of , if you have Verizon Wireless (forwarding instructions) or other carriers, is to supplant your exiting voicemail for a super-awesome Google Voice voicemail.  If they choose to leave a message, you get it transcribed and sent to you via email/text or whatever else you choose.

You can even do this if you don’t want to confuse people with having two phone numbers by signing up for GoogleVoice with your own number.

I’ve tried this before but haven’t been convinced. Greg Loesch inspired me to take a fresh look at this feature thanks to his awesome/detailed post on tips for Verizon/Google Voice usage.  (Nice work, Greg).

In my initial testing, following the instructions at GoogleVoice > Settings > Phones > Enable Google for this phone, it seems to be smart enough to allow a call to my /landline to ring and, if I don’t answer, it drops the call right into my voicemail box (rather than re-routing the call afresh causing an infinite loop).

Yeah, I kinda like that.  (especially the float-in-the-air-without-anyone-touching-it part. Is that an app?)
